Israeli police and the Shin Bet security agency said that they had arrested a 25-year-old Arab-Israeli man suspected of carrying out assignments for Iran in exchange for money.
Mohammed Khalaf, from the northern Israeli city of Baqa al-Gharbiyye, maintained contact with Iranian agents and carried out tasks for them, receiving “thousands of shekels” in return, according to The Times of Israel.
Khalaf is expected to be indicted at the Haifa District Court on charges related to harming state security.
Israeli authorities have arrested dozens of people over the past two years on suspicion of working for Iranian intelligence.
Some recruitment efforts reportedly began through social media platforms and messaging apps, including Telegram.
The allegations remain subject to judicial proceedings.
