US President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States will not launch an attack on Iran before the midterm elections, citing what he described as “productive discussions” between Washington and Tehran.

“We will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections to be held in the United States on November 3rd,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform, The Caspian Post reports.

Trump said the US and Iran were engaged in “productive discussions,” while stressing that the blockade of Iran “will remain in full force and effect.”

He also claimed that oil was moving through the Strait of Hormuz at “record numbers,” saying that 22 million barrels had passed through the waterway on Wednesday and that “not one barrel” had originated in or been destined for Iran.

“Iran will not have a nuclear weapon!” Trump added.

His remarks came amid media reports that the White House had asked the Pentagon to prepare options for strikes against Iranian targets that could be carried out before the midterm elections.
