President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has signed a decree relieving Svetlana Zhakupova of her duties as Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population.
Born in the Karaganda Region, Zhakupova graduated from the Tselinograd State Pedagogical Institute and the Almaty Academy of Economics and Statistics. In 2023, she served as the Commissioner for the Rights of Socially Vulnerable Categories of the Population under the President of Kazakhstan, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
On September 2, 2023, Zhakupova was appointed Minister of Labor and Social Protection and was reappointed to the post in February 2024. During her tenure, the ministry focused on social policy reforms, labor market regulation, and support for vulnerable groups.
