Kazakhstan has captured gold in the men’s team table tennis event at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Kazakh trio - Kirill Gerasimekno, Alan Kurmangaliyev, and Aidos Kenzhigulov - delivered an impressive performance against Iran’s Benyamin Faraji, Mohammad Mousavi Taher, and Amir Hossein Hodai, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.
Kurmangaliyev and Kenzhigulov started strong with a 2-1 win in doubles, while Gerasimekno and Kurmangaliyev sealed the deal in singles, each scoring a dominant 3-0 victory.
Both Gerasimekno and Kurmangaliyev are set to compete further in the singles and doubles categories.
Earlier at the Games, Kazakh weightlifter Yedyge Yemberdy also made headlines by winning three medals, continuing Kazakhstan’s impressive run in Riyadh.
