Special Representative of the President of Kazakhstan for Afghanistan Yerkin Tukumov participated in the eighth meeting of the Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan.
The meeting addressed the situation in Afghanistan, regional security, efforts to counter terrorism and drug trafficking, and prospects for further cooperation with Kabul, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry.
Tukumov noted the expansion of trade and economic relations and stressed Kazakhstan’s interest in increasing trade, industrial cooperation and transport connectivity.
Kazakhstan also underlined the importance of maintaining humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan. In June, the country supplied around 319 tons of humanitarian aid, including 161,000 medicines and medical supplies.
Cooperation in combating drug trafficking is also continuing. Kazakhstan is supporting the training of Afghan dog handlers and supplying service dogs.
At the same time, differences between the Afghan and Pakistani sides prevented the participants from agreeing on a final joint statement. Nevertheless, they reaffirmed the significance of the Moscow Format as a platform for regional dialogue and cooperation on peace, security and Afghanistan’s development.
Trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Afghanistan totaled $581.1 million in January-July 2026, marking a 2.4-fold increase. The sides also discussed the development of regional transport corridors and opportunities for Kazakh companies to take part in infrastructure projects.
