Kazakhstan and ICAO Join Forces to Boost Civil Aviation

The Kazakh Ministry of Transport has announced that Kazakhstan and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) are set to deepen their cooperation.

The statement was made following a high-level meeting in Astana, The Caspian Post reports via the ministry.

During discussions between ICAO President Salvatore Sciacchitano and Kazakhstan’s Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev, both sides focused on key areas including flight safety, infrastructure modernization, and accommodating rising passenger numbers.

The meeting culminated in the signing of significant agreements: a joint declaration between the Ministry of Transport and ICAO, alongside a comprehensive Master Plan for Civil Aviation Development (CAMDP) extending to 2050.

Kazakhstan has become the first country in Central Asia and the CIS region to create such an integrated framework aimed at elevating the aviation industry.

Over the last 15 years, Kazakhstan’s adherence to ICAO standards has improved markedly-from 47 per cent to 82 per cent-which led to the removal of all EU flight restrictions on Kazakh airlines. The Ministry now targets reaching 90 per cent compliance.

In a related event, ICAO President Sciacchitano met with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who honored him with the Order of Dostyk (Friendship) First Degree for his role in fostering international aviation collaboration.
