Kazakhstan and Thailand are looking to strengthen bilateral ties, with transport, tourism, digitalisation and direct air links among the key areas of potential cooperation ahead of the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027.

Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Thailand, Margulan Baimukhan, held talks with Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General of the Thai Foreign Ministry’s Department of South Asian, Middle Eastern and African Affairs, according to Qazinform News Agency.

During the meeting, Baimukhan thanked the Thai side for its hospitality and the high standard of organisation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings, held in Bangkok on October 12-18, 2026. He also praised the coordination with Thai government agencies and the arrangements that enabled the Kazakh delegation to participate in the meetings and hold bilateral discussions.

Mongkolnavin, in turn, welcomed Kazakhstan’s participation and highlighted the importance of the meetings in advancing bilateral engagement. She reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to maintain close coordination with Kazakhstan and expand practical cooperation.

The diplomats discussed preparations for joint events, bilateral visits and initiatives planned to mark 35 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2027.

Transport and logistics emerged as key priorities, particularly opportunities to leverage the potential of the Middle Corridor, a major trade route connecting Asia and Europe. The sides also discussed digitalisation, tourism development and the possibility of establishing direct air links between Kazakhstan and Thailand.

Other areas identified for closer cooperation included education, healthcare, culture, academic exchanges and consular protection for citizens.

The meeting also covered international and regional issues. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to regular political dialogue, mutual support for initiatives and strengthening the bilateral partnership through practical cooperation.
