Kazakhstan has expressed support for the recent summit between the Presidents of the US and Russia, held in Anchorage, viewing it as a crucial step toward initiating high-level negotiations on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Presidential Press Secretary Ruslan Zheldibay conveyed President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's position, emphasizing the significance of the summit, The Caspian Post informs per Kazakh media.
President Tokayev believes that the meeting-historic in nature-was made possible by the political will and genuine desire of both leaders to find common ground on urgent global challenges, particularly achieving a ceasefire in Ukraine.
The US-Russia summit took place at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Anchorage. Originally planned as a one-on-one discussion, the meeting expanded into a three-on-three format and lasted nearly three hours.
President Trump was accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, while President Putin was joined by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov. Interpreters from both sides facilitated the dialogue.
Following the talks, both leaders delivered brief public statements but did not take questions from the press.
