Kazakhstani drivers may soon be able to drive in China using their national driver's licenses under a planned agreement between Kazakhstan and China.

The two countries are preparing an agreement aimed at simplifying the rules for citizens who temporarily or permanently reside in the other country. The proposed document provides for the mutual recognition of national driver's licenses, The Caspian Post reports.

Under the agreement, Kazakhstani citizens would be permitted to drive passenger cars in China with valid national licenses. Chinese citizens residing in Kazakhstan would receive the same right. In both cases, drivers would be required to follow the traffic and other applicable rules of the host country.

The agreement would also simplify the process of obtaining a local driver's license. Citizens of Kazakhstan and China would be able to exchange their licenses without additional training or examinations. However, the exchange procedure would be carried out in accordance with the laws of the country where the application is submitted.

Public discussion of the draft agreement will continue until August 30. The new rules will take effect only after the agreement is signed and formally enters into force.
