Trade turnover among the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states is expected to resume growth in 2026, reaching $102 billion following a decline in the previous year.
This was announced by Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov at an expanded meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, Trend reported.
According to him, the global economy continues to develop amidst high uncertainty, but the economies of the EAEU countries retain resilience and potential for further growth.
"Under these conditions, strengthening economic cooperation is of key importance," Bektenov noted.
He emphasized that the free movement of goods remains one of the fundamental principles of Eurasian integration, and mutual trade continues to play a vital role in the economic development of member states.
According to the prime minister, last year, intra-EAEU trade turnover amounted to $95 billion, a decrease of 3.5%.
"However, growth is projected to recover this year, increasing by 7.3% to $102 billion," he pointed out.
Bektenov also noted the importance of further developing digital trade mechanisms and expressed support for the signing of an agreement on electronic trade in goods within the EAEU.
According to him, the document's implementation will facilitate the development of e-commerce, expand business opportunities, and create more favorable conditions for participants' access to partner markets.
"We expect that its implementation will contribute to the active development of e-commerce, expand business opportunities, and create more favorable conditions for participants' access to partner markets," the prime minister said.
He also called on the Eurasian Economic Commission to ensure the timely preparation of the necessary regulations for the implementation of the agreement and the further development of digital trade within the Union.
