Top Transport Official in East Kazakhstan Faces Bribe Case

The head of the transport department of East Kazakhstan Region is suspected of accepting bribes totaling 134 million tenge.

According to the investigation, the official received illegal payments from representatives of road construction companies and bus fleets. During a search of his residence, law enforcement officers seized 121.9 million tenge in cash as well as $97,700, The Caspian Post reports via Kazakh media.

In addition, a criminal case has been launched against the head of the regional Department for Quality Assurance in the field of education, signaling a broader probe into alleged corruption within the region’s public administration.
