Kyrgyzkomur OJSC is planning to begin underground coal mining operations within the next two to three years, company director Kairat Mamatov has announced.
He stated that this method will reduce the negative impact on the environment and optimize production processes, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kabar.
Mamatov noted the successful experience of a Chinese company, which, using modern technologies, mines up to 1.2 million tons of coal using underground mining.
Firstly, the waste dumps require approximately 500 hectares of land, which means the destruction of the mountains near Son-Kol. Secondly, specialized mining machines are needed, which we do not have, Mamatov emphasized.
He added that the transition to underground mining will preserve natural resources and contribute to the development of the country's coal industry.
