The OSCE needs stronger partners to help bring an end to the Russia-Ukraine war, Swiss Foreign Minister and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ignazio Cassis said.

Cassis made the remarks during a press briefing in Baku with Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, Report informs.

He said that discussions with Bayramov focused particularly on Russia's war against Ukraine.

"This war remains the most serious challenge to European security and the principles on which the OSCE is based. As OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, I pay special attention to this issue. We are working to preserve dialogue and ensure real communication opportunities between parties with opposing positions, including Russia, Belarus and other states," Cassis said.

He noted that the OSCE aims to provide a platform where the parties can discuss their differences and seek ways to fulfill their commitments in the future.

"We must help achieve a just and lasting peace. This is precisely the OSCE's task. At the same time, we must understand that the OSCE alone is not capable of stopping the war. This requires the support of participating states," Cassis said.

He added that when the right time comes, it will be necessary to demonstrate the need for the OSCE and its importance in relations between states.

"When the right moment arrives, we must show that there is still a need for an organization created by states such as Russia and the United States, which do not always share the same views, and that it remains a useful instrument," Cassis said.
