Russia, China Commit to Enhancing Prosperity in Border Regions

Russia and China recently held the 30th session of their bilateral border commission, expressing their commitment to fostering development in the border regions.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry's State Department for Border and Maritime Affairs, the two countries' diplomats highlighted the stability of their shared border and the increasing collaboration between their respective border territories, The Caspian Post reports, citing Russian media.

The diplomats of the two countries positively evaluated the stable state of the border, as well as the ongoing activation of interaction between the border regions of Russia and China. The sides agreed to strengthen border cooperation, ensure order in the border regions of the two countries, contribute to the development and prosperity of the border regions in the interests of the two countries.

In turn, the press service of the Russian embassy in Beijing said that the diplomats considered a range of topical issues related to the implementation of the intergovernmental agreement on the regime of the Russian-Chinese border from November 9, 2006. Russia and China also expressed their readiness to further improve the border infrastructure and increase the efficiency of checkpoints in light of the growing volume of cargo transportation in both areas, the press service added.

It also said that the meeting on December 16-17 was held in a friendly, open, and constructive atmosphere.

In 2001, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart Jiang Zemin signed the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation Between the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation. It stated that the countries have no mutual territorial claims. According to Putin, this document created the basis for a qualitatively new intensification of bilateral relations between Moscow and Beijing.
