Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan Set to Resume Cross-Border Bus Services

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have agreed to restore cross-border bus services.

The decision was discussed during a meeting between transport officials from both nations, held in Astana as part of the Transport Ministers' summit involving Central Asia and China, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

Azim Ibrohim and Absattar Syrgabaev discussed the resumption of interstate bus service on previously operating routes.

It is noted that they considered the possibility of launching regular bus services on the routes Khujand - Osh, Khujand - Batken and Isfara - Batken. They were suspended earlier.

The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan also proposes to resume operation of Spitamen - Istiklol - Spitamen railroad section in Sughd region. This route could be used for the transit of Kyrgyz cargo.

Earlier, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov announced the resumption of air service between the two countries from March 14. According to him, flights are planned on the routes Dushanbe - Bishkek and Bishkek - Khujand.
