A regional state of emergency was declared on Tuesday in the Russian port city of Tuapse after a drone strike triggered a large fire at an oil refinery near the Black Sea.
The Krasnodar regional operational headquarters announced on Telegram that 220 personnel are currently engaged in efforts to put out the blaze at the facility, with 50 units of equipment involved in the operation, The Caspian Post reports, citing Anadolu.
“There are 31 people at the evacuation point, including nine children,” the statement said. “If necessary, residents living in houses near the oil refinery will be relocated to a hotel.”
This attack is the latest in a series of drone strikes in recent weeks targeting both the oil refinery and the port of Tuapse, situated along the Black Sea coast.
Last week, the Krasnodar region’s operational headquarters identified an oil spill that resulted from a drone attack carried out on April 16.
Ukraine’s General Staff has repeatedly reported conducting strikes against the Tuapse oil refinery, including one on April 16 and another as recently as Monday.
Commenting on the Tuesday incident, the General Staff stated that it had executed a second strike on the Tuapse oil refinery “as part of reducing the military-economic potential” of Russia.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry said that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 186 Ukrainian drones across five regions, including Krasnodar, as well as over the Black Sea, the Sea of Azov, and Crimea, which was annexed by Moscow in 2014.
