Azerbaijani customs officers have seized a large shipment of marijuana concealed in a truck transporting onions from Iran to Russia through Azerbaijan.
The seizure followed a series of operational and customs control measures carried out by officers of the Bilasuvar Customs Department, the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee said.
At the Bilasuvar customs checkpoint, a vehicle carrying a transit shipment of onions from the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Russian Federation was selected for an intensive inspection. Customs officers used a stationary X-ray scanner and a specially trained detection dog.
During the inspection, officers discovered a specially constructed hidden compartment inside the lower section of wooden pallets carrying the shipment.
The compartment contained 80 packages of dried marijuana, with a total net weight of 25 kilograms and 570 grams, which had been concealed from customs control.
