A 21-year-old man suspected of links to the terrorist organization ISIS (Daesh) was neutralized during a security operation in Türkiye's Istanbul city after opening fire at police officers.

The operation took place in Sultanbeyli district as part of a joint effort by Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MİT) and the Istanbul Police Department, according to TRT Haber.

According to law enforcement officials, the suspect, identified as Berkan Ç., was preparing to carry out a terrorist attack in Türkiye.

Police said the suspect opened fire during his attempted arrest. Officers responded, neutralizing him. One civilian was also injured in the exchange of fire.
