The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Tuesday that American forces have begun striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran.

“Today at 12 p.m. ET, U.S. forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran,” CENTCOM said in a post on X, The Caspian Post reports.

The command said the strikes came after recent attempted attacks by the IRGC on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US service members deployed in the region.

Ahead of the CENTCOM announcement, Axios also reported the strikes, citing US officials.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have remained high since the war began with strikes on Iran in late February.

A framework agreement was signed in June through mediation by Pakistan and Qatar.

In July, the US launched a two-week bombing campaign and reinstated a naval blockade following disagreements over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
