A fire broke out aboard a Ural Airlines Airbus A320 operating a flight from Yekaterinburg to Istanbul after a power bank caught fire shortly after departure.
The incident occurred approximately 20 minutes after takeoff when a power bank placed on an unoccupied seat next to its owner suddenly ignited, The Caspian Post reports, citing Telegram channel Baza.
As the passenger attempted to unplug his mobile phone from the device, he suffered a burn to one of his fingers.
The flames caused damage to the seat upholstery and seatbelt. Cabin crew responded promptly, extinguishing the fire with a fire extinguisher. The malfunctioning power bank was subsequently placed into a metal container filled with water and secured in a designated safe area on board.
Medical assistance was offered to the injured passenger, but he declined treatment. The airline later confirmed that the flight proceeded without further incident and landed safely in Türkiye.
