Russian forces have launched missile and drone attacks on several regions of Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv and surrounding areas, leaving civilians killed and injured and causing widespread damage.

Russia fired one Iskander-M ballistic missile and 146 drones. Air defense units intercepted 103 drones, but at least 36 drones and the missile hit 22 locations across the country, triggering explosions, fires, and power outages, The Caspian Post reports via Ukrainian media.

Blasts were heard in Kyiv around 1:26 a.m. (GMT+2) as air defense systems responded to incoming drones. In the Bilohorodka community on the outskirts of the capital, two civilians-a man and a woman-were killed when their apartment was struck, Kyiv Region Governor Mykola Kalashnyk said. One of the victims was a mother who had been at home with her 4-year-old child, who survived the attack.

The child was rescued from the burning building by a Radio Liberty war correspondent who rushed to help after hearing the explosion. The fire spread rapidly through the stairwell, forcing a dramatic evacuation.

Elsewhere in Kyiv, falling drone debris damaged residential buildings in the Holosiivskyi district, shattering windows and sparking a fire on the roof of a high-rise.

Air raid alerts warned of missiles approaching Kryvyi Rih and Mykolaiv, while drones were reported heading toward Odesa and Zaporizhzhia. In Zaporizhzhia, two strikes on residential areas injured at least six people, damaged 14 apartment buildings, and hit around 20 vehicles, Governor Ivan Fedorov said.

In Kryvyi Rih, a ballistic missile strike wounded two civilians. In Odesa, another overnight strike injured three men and damaged the Holy Dormition Monastery, with drones hitting the monastery grounds multiple times and damaging religious buildings and auxiliary facilities.

The attacks came amid continued escalation across multiple regions, underscoring the persistent threat to civilian areas despite air defense efforts.
