The signing ceremony took place at Airbus facilities in Getafe, Spain, and focused on the export of the Hurjet, a national jet training aircraft produced by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), The Caspian Post reports, citing Anadolu.
Haluk Gorgun, head of the Defense Industries Secretariat, attended the event alongside Spanish Defense Ministry State Secretary Maria Amparo Valcarce Garcia and Turkish Ambassador to Madrid Nuket Kucukel Ezberci.
Gorgun stated that the agreement marks a new beginning and further strengthens ties between Türkiye and Spain across multiple areas.
He also emphasized the international recognition of Türkiye’s land, sea, and air platforms, which have been developed with local engineering expertise and government support.
According to Gorgun, the partnership will include producing part of the Hurjet aircraft in Türkiye and the remainder in Spain, with involvement from local Spanish manufacturers.
For her part, Garcia highlighted that the agreement is the result of strategic planning and will significantly accelerate Spain’s defense industry.
She also noted that Spain currently allocates 2% of its gross domestic product to defense spending.
