UAE Oil Spill: Tourists Report Rashes After Swimming in Sea - VIDEO

Russian tourists have reported developing skin rashes after swimming in the sea near Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates, where a large oil spill has been reported.

Some holidaymakers developed red spots after swimming, followed by numerous small white bumps. The rash reportedly does not itch, and those affected say they otherwise feel well, SHOT reports.

Initially, the tourists did not know what had caused the skin reaction. They later discovered that other holidaymakers who had also swum in the sea were experiencing similar symptoms.

Beaches in Ras Al Khaimah are now closed until further notice. The oil slick reportedly stretches for around 40 kilometers and continues to expand.

Restrictions have also been introduced along parts of the coast in neighboring emirates. However, beaches in Dubai and Abu Dhabi remain open and are operating as usual, according to the report.

Staff at some hotels have reportedly asked tourists not to film the polluted coastline. A week-long family holiday at some of these hotels can cost more than 300,000 Russian rubles ($3,700).
