The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with additional batches of Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles to strengthen Kyiv’s military capabilities ahead of winter.
The decision was made during a meeting between British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in London earlier this week, The Telegraph reports.
The missiles can strike targets deep inside Russian territory. The latest delivery is intended to reinforce Britain’s support for Ukraine as the country prepares for the winter months.
The UK previously supplied Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine in autumn last year. The quantities involved in both the earlier and latest deliveries have not been disclosed for security reasons.
Storm Shadow is an air-launched cruise missile equipped with a turbofan engine, an infrared homing system and a GPS-assisted onboard processor. It is designed to fly at very low altitudes of around 30-40 meters, helping it approach targets while reducing its exposure to detection.
