Japan and Tajikistan signed two new grant agreements aimed at strengthening education and healthcare infrastructure in the country.
The total value of the grants, provided by the Government of Japan, amounts to $228,699, according to the Embassy of Japan in Tajikistan, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.
The agreements were signed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Tajikistan, Ms. Keiko Furuta, and representatives of the recipient organizations under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) program.
New School for Tojikobod District
The first project, worth $128,739, will fund the construction of a new school in the village of Vahdat, Tojikobod district. The contract was signed on behalf of Tajikistan by Qadriddin Faqerzoda, Chairman of the Tajikobod district. The new school is expected to improve access to quality education for local children in a remote area.
Upgraded Equipment for Istiqlol Central Hospital
The second project, receiving $99,960, will provide modern medical equipment to the Central Hospital of Istiqlol city, enhancing the hospital’s capacity to deliver better healthcare services. The agreement was signed by Valinazar Ghoibov, Director of the hospital.
A Legacy of Friendship and Support
Ambassador Keiko Furuta highlighted that for more than 30 years of diplomatic relations, Japan has continuously supported Tajikistan as a “gesture of friendship and partnership.” She emphasized Japan’s focus on education and healthcare, sectors that play a crucial role in improving people’s lives.
She expressed confidence that the projects would be completed on time and bring tangible benefits, particularly for communities affected by the April earthquake.
Long-Term Humanitarian Partnership
Since 1996, Japan has implemented 470 humanitarian projects in Tajikistan under the GGP program, with a total value exceeding $39.2 million - supporting schools, hospitals, and local authorities across the country.
These latest initiatives reaffirm Japan’s ongoing commitment to strengthening human security and improving living standards for the people of Tajikistan.
