A high-level meeting has been held at Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Health as part of the working visit of a Ukrainian delegation led by Health Minister Viktor Liashko.
The discussions were attended by Ukraine’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Yuriy Husyev and Alibala Maharramzade, head of the Azerbaijani-Ukrainian interparliamentary relations working group, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
Azerbaijan’s Health Minister Teymur Musayev highlighted the steady progress of bilateral relations, stressing that the friendship formed between the two nations after the restoration of independence has grown into a solid and mutually beneficial partnership.
Musayev emphasized that under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, healthcare modernization remains one of Azerbaijan’s top national priorities, focusing on digitization, human capital development, and strengthening the health economy.
He added that the Ukrainian delegation’s visit would further enhance the strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Ukraine in the healthcare field and open new opportunities for collaboration in pharmaceuticals, oncology, pediatrics, cardiology, and medical education.
For his part, Liashko expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for its humanitarian support to Ukraine, particularly mentioning the rehabilitation program for orphaned Ukrainian children aged 7-17, organized with the assistance of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health, calling it a strong testament to the friendship and solidarity between the two nations.
During the meeting, the two ministers signed a renewed Agreement on Cooperation in Health and Medical Science, which aims to enhance institutional capacity, strengthen public health systems, and expand collaboration in folk medicine, pharmaceuticals, and medical education.
Additionally, several memorandums of cooperation were signed between:
Azerbaijan’s National Oncology Center and Ukraine’s National Cancer Institute;
K.Y. Farajova Scientific Research Pediatric Institute and Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital;
And the cardiology centers of both countries.
A separate memorandum was also signed between Azerbaijan Medical University and Kharkiv National Medical University, outlining cooperation in student and faculty exchanges and joint scientific research.
These newly signed documents mark an important step toward strengthening the long-term partnership between Azerbaijan and Ukraine in the healthcare sector, reinforcing their shared commitment to medical innovation, excellence, and humanitarian collaboration.
