Iran says its armed forces have tested a new anti-ship missile near a US Navy aircraft carrier, as military tensions between Tehran and Washington continue to escalate.

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and a major general, said the missile was launched around 48 hours ago. He did not disclose details about the weapon or its capabilities, according to Kommersant.ru.

Rezaei also claimed that Iranian forces had struck the “Titin” US base in Jordan, without providing further details.

Rezaei said Iran would keep the strategically important Strait of Hormuz open only if the US stops threatening or attacking Iran.

“Iran is committed to keeping the Strait of Hormuz open only if the US does not threaten Iran and does not attack it,” Rezaei said.

The comments come amid growing tensions around the waterway, which is a major route for global oil shipments.

In recent days, Iran and the US have increased the intensity of their attacks involving ships and vessels in the region.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed that it struck three US vessels in the Middle East.

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth responded by threatening the “total destruction” of Iran’s tanker fleet, according to the report.
