Russia’s Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko has arrived in Turkmenistan on a working visit, with a series of international events scheduled in the country.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has also arrived in Turkmenistan, where a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is due to take place, according to vestnikkavkaza.ru.

“Over the coming days, Turkmenistan will become the center of important international events at the highest and high levels as part of the country’s CIS chairmanship. Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko has arrived in Turkmenistan on a working visit,” the Russian parliament’s upper house said.

The meetings come as Turkmenistan holds the rotating chairmanship of the CIS and prepares to host high-level international events.
