Tajikistan Appoints New Ambassador to Uzbekistan as Ties Between Neighbors Strengthen

Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon has appointed a new head of the country’s diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan.

The post has been taken by Nasreddin Ismatullo, who previously served as First Deputy Foreign Minister of Tajikistan, The Caspian Post informs via Uzbek media.

He replaces Abdujabbor Rahmonzoda, who had held the position since May 2021 and was relieved of his duties by presidential decree.

Ismatullo’s appointment is seen as another step toward strengthening Tajikistan-Uzbekistan relations, which have shown steady positive momentum in recent years - from intensified political dialogue to expanded economic cooperation and joint border initiatives.

The new ambassador is expected to focus on deepening strategic partnership, boosting humanitarian ties, and advancing joint initiatives across the Central Asian region.
