A new gas-condensate field has been discovered on Uzbekistan’s Ustyurt Plateau, following exploration work in the Muynak district.

For the first time in the area, exploration drilling produced an industrially significant flow of natural gas and condensate, confirming the discovery of the new field, which has been named Karatau, according to Sputnik Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy said the drilling program will continue. By the end of the year, specialists plan to complete Well No. 2 and begin drilling the next exploration wells, Nos. 3 and 4.

The discovery is expected to support further exploration of the Ustyurt Plateau, one of Uzbekistan’s key areas for oil and gas development.
