Brazil has appointed Sergio Rodrigues dos Santos as its new ambassador to Uzbekistan, based in Moscow.
Uzbek Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov met with the newly appointed ambassador to discuss the growing pace of bilateral cooperation between the two nations, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
Following the talks, Saidov wrote on his Telegram channel that the meeting focused on the growing pace of bilateral cooperation and the wide range of opportunities for expanding ties despite the geographical distance between the two countries. “We discussed the positive dynamics in our relations and explored new areas for practical cooperation. I wish the ambassador every success in his mission,” he said.
Rodrigues dos Santos, 57, is a career diplomat who has served in senior positions at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at overseas missions since 1995.
He succeeds Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares, who served as Brazil’s ambassador to Uzbekistan from 2022 to 2025.
