Armenia Initiates Criminal Case Against Late Ex-Security Chief

A criminal case has been opened against the late former head of Armenia’s National Security Service.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Armenia announced the opening of a criminal case against former Director of the National Security Service Gorik Hakobyan, The Caspian Post reports, citing Armenian media.

The investigation is linked to the events of March 1, 2008.

On June 4, during a political debate broadcast on Public Television, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that after the elections, former President Robert Kocharyan should be “convicted and sent to prison for a long term,” adding that “this is his obligation.”

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the criminal prosecution has been initiated under articles related to official forgery and the organization of official forgery by subordinate employees.

The office noted that Gorik Hakobyan led the National Security Service of Armenia from November 8, 2004, to February 11, 2016. He died in 2017.
