Armenian Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan
Armenian Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan has been transferred from detention to house arrest after the Court of Appeal partially approved a motion submitted by his defense attorney, Hovhannes Khudoyan.
As part of the court’s decision, Galstanyan has been barred from communicating with other individuals involved in the criminal case against him, The Caspian Post reports, citing Sputnik Armenia.
In a separate ruling issued the same day, a lower court allowed Galstanyan to travel to the town of Ijevan, where he is officially registered, for seven hours on June 7 so he can take part in voting.
Galstanyan, who leads the Holy Struggle movement, has been in custody since late June last year. Armenian authorities accuse him of preparing a coup d’état.
