Azerbaijan, China Seal Nut Export Agreement to Boost Agricultural Trade

Azerbaijan and China have taken a significant step to deepen agricultural trade and food safety cooperation, with the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan and China’s General Administration of Customs signing a draft protocol on inspection, quarantine, and sanitary requirements for the export of hazelnuts and almonds.

The agreement was formalized during an official delegation visit by AFSA to China under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, The Caspian Post reports via the Azerbaijani Food Safety Agency.

Under the terms of the new protocol, hazelnuts and almonds cultivated in Azerbaijan will be permitted for export to China, subject to adherence to agreed inspection and sanitary standards. Alongside this, both sides also signed a draft cooperation mechanism to ensure food safety in the import-export pipeline.

The meeting also covered expanded trade prospects for other Azerbaijani produce, including poultry, seafood, cherries, apples, persimmons, and pomegranates.

Officials say this development not only opens new export markets for Azerbaijani farmers but also enhances bilateral cooperation on food safety standards, assisting local producers adapt to international requirements.
