Georgia has appointed Giorgi Zakarashvili as its new ambassador to Azerbaijan.

Zakarashvili previously served as Georgia’s ambassador to Ukraine and as the country’s permanent representative to the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM. His official biography confirms that he held both positions from 2021, according to interpressnews.ge.

He will replace Zurab Pataradze, who previously served as Georgia’s ambassador to Azerbaijan. Pataradze is now chairman of the government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

Georgia and Azerbaijan maintain diplomatic relations established in 1992, with both countries describing their bilateral ties as a strategic partnership.
