New Multimodal Trade Route Connects China, Central Asia, and Caucasus

Uzbekistan's Uztemiryulkonteyner company has announced the launch of the first international multimodal container route linking China, Central Asia, and the Caucasus.

The inaugural shipment departed from Kashgar, China, and will traverse Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, before arriving in Azerbaijan, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.

Cargo shipped from Xi’an and Chengdu is first transported by rail to Kashgar, then by road to Osh, Kyrgyzstan. From Osh, containers continue by rail to a Turkmen seaport, and finally proceed by sea to Baku, Azerbaijan.

Officials say the new corridor is designed to strengthen trade and logistics cooperation, boost transportation efficiency, and foster a strategic Asia-Europe link under the Belt and Road Initiative.
