Organization of Turkic States to Form Union of Journalists

The seventh meeting of ministers and senior officials of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) responsible for media and information has been held in Baku, Azerbaijan with a major announcement: plans to establish a Journalists’ Union within the OTS framework.

OTS Deputy Secretary General Ömer Kocaman highlighted the organization’s expanding scope, noting that Turkic states are now cooperating across 55 different areas, The Caspian Post informs via local media.

He stressed that alongside new opportunities, media sectors also face growing threats driven by rapid technological development - particularly the spread of fake news.

“In recent years, we have achieved comprehensive cooperation in countering disinformation within the OTS. This includes establishing a coordination group among media outlets and TV channels,” Kocaman said.

He added that from 2025 to 2027, the OTS will function as a coordination hub for information and news exchange across member states.

“The creation of a Journalists’ Union within the OTS is now one of the key priorities on our agenda,” Kocaman emphasized.
