What’s Next for USAID Programs in Central Asia?

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) focuses its regional efforts in Central Asia on five key sectors that are essential for regional prosperity and security: energy, trade and enterprise development, environment and transboundary water management, combating human trafficking, and countering violent extremism.

Experts say the work in the five countries - Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan - is not as significant as in other regions, The Caspian Post reports citing Voice of America.

However, they believe the region is still suffering, including the lack of programs to train and retain essential personnel.
