Simone Borghesi: Scientific Evidence is Key to Accelerating Climate Action
"I hope our scientific contributions can help accelerate the actions needed to address climate change.”
Simone Borghesi, Director of the Climate Area at the Florence School of Regulation, European University Institute, emphasized the importance of scientific evidence in advancing climate policy during a series of side events. His comments were made during an exclusive interview with The Caspian Post at the COP29 summit, currently being held in Baku.
Borghesi highlighted his work on key climate initiatives, including carbon markets, carbon dioxide removal strategies, and urban-level policies aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change. Speaking on the role of academia, he stated, “We provide scientific information and evidence to facilitate dialogue among policymakers. I hope our scientific contributions can help accelerate the actions needed to address climate change.”
The COP29 summit in Baku has brought together global leaders, experts, and activists to discuss urgent climate challenges and collaborative solutions. Borghesi’s remarks underline the critical role of research institutions like the Florence School of Regulation in bridging the gap between science and policy. By focusing on innovative solutions and actionable insights, Borghesi and his team aim to drive effective and immediate responses to the climate crisis.
As discussions on global climate policy intensify, the expertise of institutions like the European University Institute remains indispensable in fostering informed decision-making among governments and stakeholders worldwide.
