Tajikistan has shown interest in importing oil from Azerbaijan and collaborating on renewable energy projects. The country may also participate in the future project to lay a green energy cable on the Caspian Sea floor, according to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy, The Caspian Post reports citing Interfax International.

"Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Tajik Energy and Water Resources Minister Daler Juma on Friday. The sides discussed opportunities for the two countries' cooperation as part of the Central Asia-Azerbaijan green energy corridor. Interest was also expressed in cooperating with Azerbaijan on supplying oil to Tajikistan and in jointly implementing renewable energy projects," the ministry said.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan could join the project to build an energy cable running from Central Asia to Azerbaijan along the Caspian Sea floor in the future, Shahbazov said during a ministerial discussion on promoting Central Asia's renewable energy transition on Friday.

"I would like to note that this project is actually not limited only to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Other Central Asian countries, in particular Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan with their vast water resources, might join it in the future. And these countries will undoubtedly make a valuable contribution thanks to their water resources," he said.

As reported, on May 1, 2024 the Kazakh, Azerbaijani and Uzbek energy ministers signed a memorandum on cooperation which envisages studying the possibility of unifying the three countries' energy systems by laying a high-voltage cable along the Caspian Sea floor and through the countries' territory to supply green energy to Europe.

The energy cable through the Caspian will become an integral part of the project to build an energy bridge from Central Asia through the Black and Caspian Seas to Europe to transfer green energy.
