The opening ceremony of the art exhibition titled "Sustainable Vision: Art for a Greener Future" was held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, organized by the Permanent Delegation of Azerbaijan to UNESCO.
The event featured remarkable artworks by Azerbaijani artists, celebrating the nation's commitment to sustainability and global solidarity, The Caspian Post reports, citing AZERTAC.
The exhibition, inspired by the “Green World Solidarity Year 2024” declared by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, underscores the nation’s strong commitment to sustainability and global solidarity.
It featured exceptional artworks by Azerbaijan's People’s Artist Sakit Mammadov, alongside renowned artists Khanlar Asadullayev, Agshin Kazimov, Mahir Gafarov, Nihad Aghazade, Chinare Bakshiyev-Gafarova, and Aynur Mammadova, as well as promising young talents like Nazila Farzullayeva and Maryam Abdulla.
Dignitaries present at the opening ceremony included Simona-Mirela Miculescu, President of the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference; Ernesto Ottone Ramirez, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Culture; Firmin Edouard Matoko, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Priority Africa and External Relations; and Lidia Brito, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences. Ambassadors, permanent representatives, and local art figures from countries accredited to UNESCO also attended the event.
In his address, Elman Abdullayev, Permanent Delegate of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, highlighted Azerbaijan’s unwavering commitment to addressing climate change. He referred to the successful organization of COP29 in Azerbaijan and the landmark climate deal reached during the conference as milestones in international climate diplomacy.
UNESCO representatives speaking at the event emphasized the pivotal role of culture in sustainable development. They highlighted UNESCO’s vision of protecting and safeguarding the world’s cultural and natural heritage, fostering creativity, and promoting vibrant cultural sectors as essential to tackling global challenges. The speakers also congratulated Azerbaijan on successfully hosting COP29, noting that this achievement reflects the nation’s dedication to climate issues.
The artworks displayed in the exhibition celebrate Azerbaijan’s rich cultural and natural heritage while advocating for environmental conservation.
Following the opening ceremony, attendees toured the exhibition and explored the showcased works.
The exhibition, “Sustainable Vision: Art for a Greener Future”, will remain open to the public for three days at UNESCO headquarters.
