Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov held a meeting with CEO of Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power Marco Arcelli.
During the meeting, the parties commended ACWA Power's increasing its footprint in Azerbaijan through new projects, The Caspian Post reports, citing the country's Energy Ministry.
Discussions covered the implementation of industrial-scale onshore and offshore wind energy production and transmission projects as part of Azerbaijan’s green energy agenda in partnership with the company. The sides also reviewed the progress made towards the timely commissioning of the 240 MW Khizi-Absheron Wind Power Plant at full capacity.
The sides also exchanged views on the implementation of a 200 MW wind power project with the company within the framework of grid studies carried out to integrate new additional green energy capacities into the energy system for both export and domestic consumption.
Discussions also covered feasibility studies for supplying electricity from Nakhchivan to Türkiye, considering the prospects for implementing a wind energy project with ACWA Power. The meeting also touched upon cooperation in offshore energy production.
The discussions also addressed the measures put in place to implement the Black Sea submarine cable project and land interconnectors that will connect Azerbaijan with Europe via Georgia and Türkiye. It was emphasized that interregional connections are essential not only for the transmission of electricity but also for data transfer. The fiber-optic component is currently being developed in parallel with the power transmission line.
