The traditional annual conference "Gas 2025: Bridge or Brake? The Gas Sector Between Energy Transition and World Politics," organized by the influential German newspaper Handelsblatt, highlighted Azerbaijan’s energy strategy and its significant contributions to Europe's energy security.
The platform, which gathers industry leaders, government representatives, and energy experts, centers its discussions on critical topics like energy policy, the global gas market, emission reduction, and transition strategies, The Caspian Post reports citing AZERTAC.
During his keynote address at the conference, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Germany Nasimi Aghayev outlined Azerbaijan's contributions to Europe's energy sector.
In his remarks, Nasimi Aghayev emphasized that with the signing of the "Contract of the Century" after regaining independence, Azerbaijan opened the Caspian Basin to Western companies and built long-term strategic energy partnerships. The diplomat mentioned that the Southern Gas Corridor directly links Azerbaijan's gas fields to Europe, adding that the volumes of gas transported to Europe through this infrastructure is increasing year by year.
The ambassador underlined that Azerbaijan currently exports gas to 14 countries, 11 of which are in Europe, including 9 EU member states, stating that this fact demonstrates that Baku has become an integral pillar of Europe’s energy security.
Noting that President Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed the Joint Declaration, and they witnessed the initialing of the agreed upon text of the Agreement on Establishment of Peace and Inter-State relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Parties in Washington last month, the diplomat underscored that both leaders jointly stated that the signing of this agreement would lay the foundation for stability in the region, leading to new transport and trade routes, infrastructure projects, and investments.
Following the presentation, the Azerbaijani ambassador responded to the moderator's questions, providing detailed information on several key topics, which included the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor, the development of alternative energy, and the outcomes of COP29 hosted by Baku.
