Russia Considers Full Ban on Diesel Exports

Russia may introduce a complete ban on diesel exports, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said on Tuesday during a government meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin.

Novak described the situation on the domestic fuel market as “challenging but under control,” adding that the government has prepared a range of measures to increase fuel supplies during the summer period, when demand for petroleum products traditionally rises, The Caspian Post reports, citing Anadolu.

According to Novak, Russian oil companies have already maximized fuel production and deliveries to the regions. He also noted that small and medium-sized refineries have been mobilized to boost motor fuel output.

“We are using reserves that were not previously utilized. We are also stimulating additional supplies to the domestic market, including through amendments to tax legislation prepared by the government,” Novak said.

In early June, Russia imposed a temporary ban on aviation fuel exports that will remain in effect until Nov. 30 as part of efforts to maintain stability in the domestic fuel market.

Over the past week, authorities introduced restrictions on fuel sales in several regions, including Saratov, Tver, Omsk, Crimea, and Tatarstan.

Additional restrictions were imposed on fuel sales at Gazpromneft filling stations in the Tyumen region and at Lukoil stations in the Voronezh region.

At the same time, oil producer Tatneft introduced temporary limits on gasoline and diesel sales at its filling stations across Russia after Ukraine’s Defense Forces said a drone strike on June 12 targeted the TANECO refinery in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan, which belongs to the Tatneft group.

Earlier this month, Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Ukrainian forces had struck 16 major Russian oil refineries and fuel terminals, putting more than 30% of the country’s refining capacity out of operation, according to its assessment.
