Russia's Gazprom Talks Collaboration Development with Kazakhstan

PJSC Gazprom CEO and management board chairman Alexei Miller met with Kazakh First Deputy Prime Minister Roman Sklyar on Tuesday in St. Petersburg.

"The meeting participants discussed matters on further developing collaboration in the gas industry," Gazprom said, The Caspian Post reports citing Interfax.

This is the first meeting between Miller and Sklyar this year. Seven contacts were reported between the parties in 2024 and five contracts in 2023.

Gazprom recalls that Russian natural gas supplies began to consumers in Uzbekistan via Kazakhstan in October 2023. Supplies are organized in reverse mode along a specially designated route along the Central Asia-Center main gas pipeline system.

The Kazakh government and Gazprom in 2023 signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at developing interaction in the supply, transportation and processing of natural gas, as well as its geological exploration and production.

The parties have already begun discussing a project to construct a gas pipeline infrastructure totaling 45 billion cubic meters of gas, with 10 bcm expected to gasify the northeastern part of Kazakhstan, and 35 bcm for export to China.

In November 2024, Gazprom and the Kazakh government signed an agreement on the main terms and conditions to process and sell gas from the Karachaganak field for 2025-2026.
