Russia and Sudan have discussed projects involving the development of oil fields and expansion of the electricity sector, with both sides expressing interest in their joint implementation, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said.
"We have just discussed with Sudan, among other things, a project to develop oil fields and the electricity sector. Our partners are interested in the joint implementation of such projects," Novak said in an interview with the Vesti news program, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.
He noted that Russian state-owned oil exploration company Zarubezhneft had already signed a memorandum of understanding with Sudan.
"We are now ready to move on to concrete discussions," Novak added.
Earlier, Eltahir Mohamed, Director of the Oil Exploration and Production Department at Sudan's Energy Ministry, said Zarubezhneft could expand its presence in the country, as Sudanese authorities were prepared to offer the company new blocks for oil exploration and production.
