Georgia's Revenue Service says it is investigating reports of delays affecting trucks with Azerbaijani registration plates at the country's customs checkpoints.

"The movement of cargo in all directions through border crossing points is proceeding without obstruction... This case is being examined," the agency said in a statement to the IPN news agency, News Georgia reports.

Earlier, Azerbaijani news agency Report said that truck drivers transiting through Georgia had been unable to complete customs clearance for several weeks. According to the report, delays have been recorded at the Sarpi and Red Bridge border crossing points, as well as at the Customs Clearance Centre in Tbilisi.

Drivers said they had not been given any official explanation for the delays. Some also reported that their documents had been taken for inspection and that they had been waiting anywhere from several days to several weeks for permission to continue their journey.

According to Report, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia has submitted an inquiry to the Georgian authorities seeking clarification of the situation. The embassy said the matter is being examined jointly by the competent authorities of the two countries.
