Heavy Rain Triggers Mudslides and Flooding in Georgia’s Kakheti

Severe rainfall in eastern Georgia has caused flooding and mudslides in the Akhmeta municipality of the Kakheti region.

The affected areas include several villages in the Pankisi Gorge, where heavy downpours led to water entering residential yards and agricultural plots. Local authorities also reported partial damage to a pedestrian bridge in the village of Shua Khalatsani, The Caspian Post reports via Georgia Online.

Residents said they managed to move livestock to safer locations in time. In some areas, water levels reportedly rose significantly, flooding courtyards before the rain later subsided.

Officials from the Akhmeta municipality said emergency crews and equipment will be deployed to the area to assess the damage and begin restoring infrastructure in the coming days.
