The United Kingdom has imposed sanctions on four Georgian nationals as part of a new package of measures targeting Russian influence and disinformation.
The sanctioned individuals are Mamuka Pipia, international secretary of the pro-Kremlin Solidarity for Peace party; Giorgi Iremadze, a pro-Russian commentator, a member of the party’s political council; Nikoloz Mzhavanadze, chairman of the Union of Human Rights Defenders; and Paata Abuladze, the son-in-law of Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, according to Sputnik Georgia.
The four were sanctioned over activities it says support or promote policies that “destabilise Ukraine” and contribute to the spread of pro-Kremlin disinformation.
The measures include asset freezes and travel bans, meaning those sanctioned cannot enter the UK. The new package includes seven individuals accused by London of involvement in spreading pro-Kremlin disinformation, including four Georgian nationals.
The UK said the broader sanctions package is aimed at disrupting Russian financing and information networks linked to the war in Ukraine.
