The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway has officially entered full operation after completing its modernization.
Officials jointly pressed a symbolic button, officially launching the railway"s new operational stage, The Caspian Post reports, citing Report.
The ceremony of official commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway (BTK) following modernization is taking place at the Akhalkalaki Railway and Logistics Complex in Georgia.
The event is attended by senior officials from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, as well as heads of railway and port administrations.
According to the program, speeches were delivered by Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, Azerbaijan's Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev, and Türkiye's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
Following the speeches, a symbolic commissioning of the BTK line took place, accompanied by a video presentation of the project.
The BTK is a strategic transport corridor jointly implemented by Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye. After modernization of the Georgian section, its capacity has increased from 1 million to 5 million tons per year.
Experts say the full-scale commissioning will strengthen the Middle Corridor, boost cargo flows from China and Central Asia to Europe, and enhance the region's transit potential.
